Iowa Flood Center Commemorates Flood Awareness Month

IIHR--Hydroscience & Engineering commemorated Flood Awareness Month (March) with a special news media briefing March 1. The briefing showcased numerous tools that have been developed, including flood inundation maps to give viewers a prediction of which areas would be affected in a given community at a given flood stage.

Another feature presented at the session by Witold Krajewski, professor of civil and environmental engineering and director of the Iowa Flood Center, is Hazus, a damage cost estimate calculator from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for various flooding scenarios.
